The Role
Under general supervision, the primary goal of the Enterprise Network Engineer is to ensure the smooth operation of the enterprise-wide voice and data network to provide maximum performance and availability for system users. This position is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining and supporting LAN, WAN and VoIP infrastructures at the City.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field and three years of experience designing and supporting local and wide area networks.
One or more industry recognized networking or relevant certifications. Cisco, Palo Alto, and/or Microsoft preferred.
This Position Is- FLSA Exempt, paid a salary irrespective of hours.
- Grade 415 with an annual salary between $97,902 - $146,853 (effective 6/27/26).

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave:
- 10.5 paid holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave per calendar year to celebrate cultural or religious holidays.
- Vacation leave accrues at 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/year). Increases to 6.12 h after 5 years; caps at 7.6 h after 10 years.
- Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/year).
- Retirement: participates in Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Participation mandatory.
- Duration: contributes 12.00% deducted per pay period.
- Implements, administers, and maintains network devices including, but not limited to, firewalls, routers, wireless access points, switches, and controllers.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves hardware, software, and other network and system problems.
- Designs, documents, and deploys functional enterprise-wide LAN/WAN systems.
- Works with users, consultants, technical teams, and vendors to determine appropriate selection of network technology and services to meet business needs.
- Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding network and system security.
- Supports and assists with maintaining the technology replacement cycle.
- Prepares and maintains documentation that reflects the current network architecture, components, and software revision levels.
- Develops and monitors security procedures to safeguard the City’s infrastructure from physical harm, viruses, unauthorized users, and potential data loss.
- Develops, adds, removes, or changes configurations to provide appropriate authorization and connectivity via ACLs, VPN, and NATs.
- Develops performance metrics to detect and correct network performance deficiencies.
- Responsible for configuring the City’s network protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, and static routing).
- Documents, creates checklists, and processes for communicating support information to the Service Desk; provides training as appropriate.
- Participates in change control process; completes change requests; coordinates work with City departments and the Innovation & Technology department.
- Provides technical support to other departments as required for network, voice, data, and wireless initiatives.
- Identifies improvement opportunities, including tools, processes, procedures, configuration and troubleshooting techniques.
- Provides on-call support during non‑business hours.
- Maintains high level of current knowledge regarding systems, technology, and communications.
- Operates city vehicles.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field and three years of experience designing and supporting local and wide area networks.

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
