Overview

Under general supervision, the primary goal of the Enterprise Network Engineer is to ensure the smooth operation of the enterprise-wide voice and data network to provide maximum performance and availability for the system users. This position is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining and supporting LAN, WAN and VoIP infrastructures at the City.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field and three years of experience designing and supporting local and wide area networks.

One or more industry‑recognised networking or relevant certifications. Cisco, Palo Alto, and/or Microsoft preferred.

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.

Salary
  • FLSA Exempt, paid a salary regardless of hours worked per week.
  • Grade 415 with an annual salary between $97,902 – $146,853 (Effective 6/27/26).

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave
  • 10.5 paid holidays per year, and full‑time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave per calendar year.
  • Vacation leave accrues at 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25 days/yr); increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years and caps at 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.
  • Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days/yr).
Retirement
  • Participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Contribution is mandatory and deducted every pay period. Current contribution rate is 12.00%.
Responsibilities
  • Implement, administer, and maintain network devices including but not limited to firewalls, routers, wireless access points, switches, and controllers.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve hardware, software, and other network and system problems.
  • Design, document, and deploy functional enterprise‑wide LAN/WAN systems.
  • Work with users, consultants, technical teams and vendors to determine the most appropriate selection of network technology and/or services for meeting business needs.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations relating to network and system security.
  • Support and assist with maintaining the technology replacement cycle.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation that accurately reflects the network architecture, components and software revision levels.
  • Develop and monitor appropriate security procedures to safeguard the City’s infrastructure from physical harm, viruses, unauthorized users and potential data loss.
  • Develop, add, remove, or change configurations to provide appropriate authorization and connectivity through ACLs, VPN, and NATs.
  • Develop and monitor appropriate performance metrics to detect and correct network performance deficiencies.
  • Configure the City’s network protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, and static routing).
  • Develop documentation, checklists and processes for communicating support information to the Service Desk and provide training as appropriate.
  • Participate in the change control process, complete change requests, and coordinate work with City departments and within the Innovation & Technology department.
  • Provide technical support to other departments as required for network, voice, data and wireless communication initiatives.
  • Identify improvement opportunities, including tools, processes, procedures and installation, configuration and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Provide on‑call support during non‑business hours.
  • Maintain a high level of current knowledge regarding systems, technology and communications.
  • Operate city vehicles.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
