Position: Contract Park Ranger (30+ Hours/Week)

About Us

The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas:

  • Parks Division manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park. The Division is also responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of park and facility use.
  • Recreation Division offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health of our community through a variety of diverse recreation programs and facilities. Recreation programs and events are held at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, the Glendale Adult Center, Historic Sahuaro Ranch, the five community centers and at basketball, tennis, skate courts and other recreation facilities throughout the city.
The Role

The City of Glendale is currently accepting applications for Temporary Park Ranger. This position provides assistance and information to park visitors, promotes park safety and enforces park policies and regulations.

Additional Information

Position Overview:

  • Typical operating hours: This part-time position offers up to 30 hours per week and requires working at least one weekend day. Availability to work any day of the week, including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays is required.
  • Hours: 30+ hours per week, scheduled as needed
  • FLSA status: Non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week)
  • Sick Time: Accrues at .034 hours per-hour-paid
  • Medical Benefits: Our medical plans are administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona

Retirement

This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).

  • The current contribution rate is 12%.

Essential Functions
  • Operates a portable radio to maintain contact with staff and local law enforcement agencies.
  • Resolves and handles complaints within the City of Glendale parks, trails, recreation facilities and sports complexes.
  • Monitors park activities and users; educates and enforces park policies, regulations, and applicable city codes.
  • Works with volunteers to provide educational programs that promote park and facility use.
  • Performs park security activities; monitors events; identifies and reports unsafe conditions and vandalism.
  • Patrols park to deter criminal and other undesirable activity.
  • Ensures that reserved facilities are available to users in a safe, clean condition, checks for permits.
  • Provides assistance in emergency situations; call for police or medical assistance.
  • Answers routine questions and assists park users as required.
  • Checks and monitors safety of playground equipment.
  • Prepares reports of injuries, vandalism, thefts, and patrol activities.
  • Cleans area using broom, mop or other tools.
  • Moves debris, dirt or other material using a shovel, rake or other tool.
  • Sets up tables, chairs, barricades, traffic cones, etc.
  • Assists with setting up for special events.
  • Sets up barricades and signage for safety and maintenance closures in parks, trails, recreation facilities and sports complexes.
