Library Security Guard - Position

The Temporary Library Security Guard provides security for City facilities, enforces rules and regulations, and answers questions and provides information to the public.

This part-time position requires availability to work any day of the week, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. There are four open positions.

• Hours: 19+ hours per week, scheduled as needed
• Hourly rate: $18.00 - $19.00
• FLSA status: Non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week)
• Work locations: 2 positions at the Main Library, 1 position at Velma Teague Library and 1 position at Foothills Library
• Sick Time: Accrues at .034 hours per-hour-paid

• Two years of experience as a security officer or police officer.

• Security practices
• Electronic security alarms and systems

• Use of analyzing and reacting to emergency situations

• Handle encounters with irate or hostile individuals
• Identify hazardous or unsafe conditions or behaviors
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public
• Effectively communicate orally and in writing

• May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
• This position is classified as safety-sensitive which requires candidates to successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. They will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy. A post-offer physical assessment is required. The City of Glendale will incur the cost of all required testing.
