The Water Services System Technician – Wastewater Collections performs skilled and semi‑skilled construction, maintenance, and repair work for the City of Glendale Water Services Department.

Salary- FLSA non‑exempt; overtime paid for hours over 40 in a week.
- Grade 312; hourly salary range $22.6404 to $33.9606.
- $1,000 after 30 days of employment.
- $1,000 after 6 months of employment.

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave- 10.5 paid holidays per year, plus 12 hours of special holiday leave for cultural or religious holidays.
- Vacation accrues at 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/yr). Increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years and caps at 7.6 hours after 10 years.
- Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/yr).
- Participation in Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
- Mandatory contribution of 12.00% deducted each pay period.

Essential Functions- Perform skilled and semi‑skilled construction, maintenance, and repair tasks.
- Operate light to heavy equipment: 3‑ton utility truck, backhoe, combination jetter, vacuum truck, dump truck, utility crane truck, hydro‑excavation equipment, and closed‑circuit TV.
- Use power and hand tools to accomplish tasks.
- Enforce safety rules, traffic control, hazardous material procedures.
- Maintain daily work records and perform computerized data entry.
- Transport, set up, and conduct safety checks on supplies and equipment.
- Install, test, maintain, and repair water mains, sewer mains, service valves, fire hydrants, manholes, and storm water facilities.
- Tap water mains, install services, and water meters.
- Test, repair, replace, and relocate water meters, including seasonal service cuts.
- Respond to water usage complaints.
- Construct and maintain large meter vaults, manholes, and job sites.
- Excavate and restore job sites to pre‑work conditions.
- Investigate sewer odors, stoppages, and storm water issues.
- Hydro‑clean street and storm lines.
- Assist with closed‑circuit TV operations and surveillance of sewer and storm lines.
- Operate city vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Two years of construction, maintenance, or repair experience and/or operation of light, medium, and heavy equipment related to this assignment.
- Experience operating 3‑ton utility trucks, backhoes, combination jetters, vacuum trucks, dump trucks, utility crane trucks, hydro‑excavation equipment, and closed‑circuit TV.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, or experience may qualify.
- Relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Materials, tools, equipment, safety hazards, and precautions.
- Confined space entry procedures.
- Blue‑stake laws and underground utility identification practices.
- Read and understand blueprints, technical diagrams, maps, and staking procedures.
- Barricade work sites according to the Phoenix barricade manual.
- Follow safe working practices and oral/written instructions.
- Communicate with residents, businesses, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Complete reports, logs, and computer data entry.
- Operate atmospheric sensing devices.
- Operate city vehicles requiring a CDL.
- Arizona Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire.
- Maintain valid state driver’s license and comply with all training and license checks.
- Register with FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse within 90 days of hire.
- ADEQ Grade 1 Wastewater Collection System Operator Certification within 12 months of hire.
- Eligible for certification incentive program after 1 year of employment.
- May be subject to call‑back, standby duty, and rotating shifts.
- Safety‑sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing and a post‑offer physical assessment.
- Heavy digging and lifting up to 80 pounds.
- Extensive walking, bending, standing, crawling, and working in trenches and water‑filled holes.
- Exposure to traffic, hot weather, hazardous materials, insects, and gases.
- Operation of city vehicles requiring a CDL.
