SONIC DRILLER ASSISTANT — EARN WHILE YOU LEARN Responsibilities
- Provide semi‑skilled, labor‑intensive assistance for drilling crews, including operation of vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
- Haul supplies to and from drill site.
- Add or remove rods to/from drill string.
- Collect samples, ensuring bags/cores are labeled correctly, legible, and ordered by footages.
- Build chip trays.
- Assist in rigging up/down and relocating to new drill locations.
- Fuel site equipment and perform preventative maintenance (oil changes, greasing, fueling, etc.).
- Complete daily site, mast, and pre‑shift inspections on all equipment.
- Conduct site inductions for visitors.
- Maintain accurate parts inventory.
- Ensure general condition and optimal life of all site equipment and tooling.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Driller or Field Supervisor.
- At times, train new driller assistants in a safe environment.
- Willing to travel by plane or car to worksites throughout Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado and other states where Boart Longyear operates.
- Able to commute long distances (300+ miles) for shifts.
- Willing to work in remote locations and all‑weather elements.
- Willing to work extended periods, 12+ hour shifts for 14‑20 days at a time.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
- Valid U.S. Work Authorization.
- Pass background and drug screening.
- Pass a Physical Functional Fitness Evaluation.
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of directly related experience in drilling.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in related positions such as construction laborer, heavy laborer, mechanic, or mechanical work.
- Competitive pay with first‑year total compensation typically $85k–$97k inclusive of overtime, per diem and bonuses.
