Key

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop creative approaches to keep operational costs to a minimum, improve efficiency, and implement new strategies.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems.
  • Analyse systems to ensure best practices for both internal and external customers.
  • Provide feedback to relevant teams on the effectiveness of existing standards and processes.
  • Work with contractors and consultants to review quality assurance for all system expansions, corrections, and upgrades.
  • Track and complete an aggressive preventive and predictive maintenance program.
  • Ensure data center operates at maximum operational efficiency, recommending new technologies and improving overall efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Manage systems to avoid unplanned customer‑impacting events.
  • Determine maintenance requirements for mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and maintain regular, predictable attendance.

Systems of responsibility include:

  • Mechanical – chilled water systems and components, HVAC systems such as rooftop units, CRAC/CRAH units, and humidification systems.
  • Electrical – electrical/critical power distribution from the utility/generator main switch gear through the UPS systems to the customer load.
  • Fire Life Safety – wet and pre‑action sprinkler systems and their associated detection devices.
  • Building Monitoring and Control – overseeing all building systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems used in a data center environment, including electrical distribution and layout, transformers, PLCs, generators, switch gear, UPS systems (STS, ATS, PDU), chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH, pre‑action sprinkler systems.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25 and related building codes.
  • Current knowledge of industrial safety best practices (lockout/tag out, arc flash protection, OSHA and state regulations).
  • Familiarity with data trending/tracking and analysis and ability to use PC‑based integrated critical monitoring systems.
  • Hands‑on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems, including chilled water systems, large centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, water treatment systems, VFDs and pumps, HVAC equipment, CRAC/CRAH units, humidification systems, water heaters, air filters, BMS and PLC controls, emergency standby diesel generator systems, fuel/oil systems, 480/277 and 208/120 electrical distribution, static UPS systems, and double‑interlock pre‑action systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Ability to coordinate, supervise, and communicate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrade work.
  • Ability to learn quickly and address issues during normal or after‑hours work.
  • Ability to operate hand and machine tools, electrical tools, and a forklift.
  • Comfortable working in a high‑stress, fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities and flexible shift requirements, including nights, holidays, and some weekends.
Academic Qualifications and Certifications
  • Relevant high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Relevant advanced qualification or equivalent work‑related experience required.
  • Relevant certifications such as CPR/First Aid, NFPA 70E (can be gained during employment), and OSHA‑approved forklift certification (or ability to obtain one after hire).
Required Experience
  • Solid demonstrated experience in a similar role within a data center facilities environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (preferably a data center, hospital, semiconductor, or power plant).
