PurposeWe are seeking a Water and Wastewater Collection Operator to join our team in Rio Rico, AZ. In this role, you will operate and maintain our water and wastewater facilities, ensuring compliance with high standards and regulatory requirements. Hourly Rate: $25/hr
Accountabilities- Demonstrate continuous improvement of operations by streamlining work processes, decreasing turnaround times, and working cooperatively to provide cost‑effective utilization of utility resources.
- Deliver outstanding customer service, establishing and maintaining open communication with internal and external customers including co‑workers, contractors, residents, and other utility departments.
- Adhere to industry and utility safety standards, policies, practices, and procedures, providing services in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements, and preparing and submitting required records and reports.
- Execute routine and emergency operational, maintenance, construction, and repair functions of infrastructure or equipment (VAC truck, CCTV) utilized in the wastewater collection division, clarifying routine day‑to‑day priorities in the field.
- Conduct daily inspections of wastewater collection infrastructure, lift stations, aquifer recharge facilities, and related equipment; record readings, check equipment, adjust system flow and stability, and maintain records and reports.
- Maintain wastewater lift stations, collecting and interpreting operational readings to maximize efficiency of operation, making operational control adjustments to protect public health and ensure system stability.
- Obtain samples and perform fats, oils, and grease sanitary sewer inspections to determine compliance with company standards; maintain industrial pre‑treatment as required by regulations and company standards.
- Identify and mark utility locations by reading building plans and archives, pinpointing areas for shutdowns due to main breaks, measuring field points, digging covered utility boxes, tracing lines, painting or placing chasers, flags, or stakes on utility locations.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Ability to read maps, manuals, work orders, and blueprints.
- Skill in performing general math calculations and common water calculations.
- Ability to write work orders, memos, letters, reports, and keep accurate daily records at well sites, lift stations and treatment facilities.
- Occasional direction of co‑workers only in absence of Senior Operator or Supervisor; no authority to hire/dismiss staff without express direction of the Operations Manager.
- Timely completion of repairs and tasks.
- Analytical judgment and decision‑making abilities for evaluating diverse variables.
- Discretion in selecting among a few identifiable choices, with review of work involving discretion.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the technical field with analytical judgment and decision‑making.
- Ability to work closely with fellow workers and follow instructions for routine maintenance throughout the system.
- Specialized knowledge of wells, pumps, motors, chlorine generators, plumbing principles, and repairs to system; high knowledge of plumbing materials and methods related to utility improvements; appropriate certification required.
- Arizona location requires an ADEQ Grade I Operator License in Wastewater Treatment, Water Distribution, Collections, or Water Treatment; valid state driver’s license; CDL may be required.
