Journeyman Carpenter

Performs a variety of skilled carpentry, cabinet making and related functions for the Peoria Unified School District (PUSD). Essential duties and responsibilities include receiving work orders and project assignments, evaluating and prioritizing work orders, identifying, collecting and ordering necessary tools, parts, equipment, materials and personnel, responding to calls for assistance related to wood, furniture, cabinetry and related concerns, assisting other trades as required, manufacturing and installing cabinetry and furniture, working with end user to identify requirements, specifications, timetables/timeframe and other issues, measuring proposed area, determining material and supply needs, preparing sketches and plans for user approval, estimating and receiving approval of project costs, ordering and picking up materials and supplies, maintaining inventory of materials and supplies, undertaking and completing renovation, installation or repairs of windows, doors, walls and related components in new construction or remodeling projects, milling, assembling, sanding, staining and finishing wood projects, preparing, assembling and gluing laminates for cabinets and counter tops, installing cabinets, bookshelves and countertops, maintaining PUSD buildings and campus facilities in assigned specialty areas, cleaning and maintaining hand and power tools and related equipment, cleaning and maintaining work areas, and performing other duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD policies and procedures, principles of journey level carpentry, woodworking and cabinet making trade, principles of cost and material estimation, use and maintenance of power and hand tools and equipment, principles of installation, renovation and repair of windows, doors, walls, and related furniture and cabinetry, reading, interpreting, understanding and applying relevant Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD policies and procedures, designing, estimating and completing cabinetry and carpentry projects, utilizing a variety of hand and power tools and equipment for in-shop and on-site repairs, maintaining records of materials, supplies and equipment, establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district, operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

High School Diploma or GED, AND four (4) years of relevant, progressively responsible woodworking, cabinetry, construction or closely related work experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Must possess or obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Must be able to pass a background clearance check. Must possess at the time of application and must maintain a valid Arizona driver license.

May be required to obtain and maintain Journeyman Cabinetry/Woodworking Certificate. May be required to perform carpentry and cabinet making services and repairs while standing, stooping, bending, crawling and working overhead. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, and infectious diseases. May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies, equipment, tools, parts, and materials weighing up to 75 pounds.

May be required to work outside normal working hours. May be required to travel to perform work functions.
