Salary Range: $48, per year
How You Will Make a Difference at Sun Valley AcademyAs the School Counselor, you will provide individuals with social, emotional and behavioral counseling in a school setting. The School Counselor will assist students in all grades at the South Mountain campus.
Responsibilities- Provide a range of psychological services including class, group, and individual counseling.
- Collaborate with teachers and parents on early identification and intervention of students’ academic and social/emotional needs.
- Assist students in removing barriers to learning and developing skills and behaviors critical for academic achievement.
- Assess students’ abilities, interests, and achievements to help them make decisions about their future.
- Provide professional assistance and support to a student or small group of students during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change or other situations impeding student success.
- Recognize and respond to student mental health needs and assist students and families seeking resources.
- Share strategies supporting student achievement with parents, teachers, other educators and community organizations.
- Collaborate with educators, parents and the community to support student achievement.
- Provide support to students and families needing school or community resources for additional assistance and information.
- Contribute to the development of social‑behavioral elements of the IEP process.
- When applicable, participate in Leadership team meetings to provide updates about important relevant topics/issues.
- Assist in crisis intervention, e.g., suicide assessment, threat to others.
- Participate on the crisis response team.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Master’s Degree in Education in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work.
- Current and active Arizona School Counseling Certification.
- Prior experience in a K‑8 setting.
- Experience working with an ethnically diverse urban population.
- Experience delivering counseling services in a school setting.
- Clinical or license to deliver therapy/counseling services.
- Bilingual skills.
