Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS)
SAGE Counseling's Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) uses their personal lived experience in recovery and/or criminal justice involvement to support individuals transitioning through behavioral health and reentry services. This role provides hope, advocacy, mentorship, and guidance to SAGE clients navigating both the justice system and treatment. The PRSS works one-on-one and in group settings to foster engagement, promote recovery, and connect clients with essential community and treatment resources.
This position holds a caseload of approximately 50 clients, primarily referred to by justice-involved pathways, including outpatient and transition programs.
Key Duties:
- Provide personalized supports to criminal justice involved clients who may benefit from meeting with someone with lived experience to navigate both natural and professional resources in accordance with goals identified in the client's service plan.
- Facilitate bimonthly or monthly groups to facilitate skill-building and linkage to community resources.
- Assess and address social determinants of health that impact progress toward goals, including intensive facilitation of access to resources and care coordination (including, but not limited to, facilitating connection to primary care, recovery groups, behavioral health homes, medication assisted treatment, and employment).
- Utilize coaching, mentoring, and role modeling using lived experience according to established PRSS credentialed practices. Interventions may include, but are not limited to, identifying needs and recovery goals, lessening feelings of isolation, increasing practical knowledge to access supports and resources in the community, exploring continued education and/or employment opportunities, partnering with other healthcare practitioners, and overcoming service barriers.
Peer Recovery Support Specialists work primarily in SAGE offices, but may have the opportunity to work remotely; majority of schedule will be in-person meetings with clients and require some travel across Maricopa County to SAGE clinics and sites.
Since position requires frequent driving to SAGE offices to provide services, a valid Arizona driver's license, reliable transportation, current auto insurance, and clean driving record are required.
21 years of age or older for liability insurance requirements.
Equipment needed to provide services are issued by SAGE.

Qualifications:
- Must have a Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) credential via an AHCCCS-recognized credentialing agency. Forensic PRSS credential preferred.
- Minimum 1 year in self-managed recovery. For former SAGE clients, must be at least 6 months post-discharge from all SAGE programming.
- Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card OR must qualify for a valid Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred
- Must have the ability to work cooperatively with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Must have good verbal and interpersonal skills to interact with clients, visitors, and coworkers.
