About Us

The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas:

  • The Parks Division manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park. The Division is also responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of park and facility use.
  • The Recreation Division offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health of our community through a variety of diverse recreation programs and facilities. Recreation programs and events are held at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, the Glendale Adult Center, Historic Sahuaro Ranch, the five community centers and at basketball, tennis, skate courts and other recreation facilities throughout the city.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic, friendly individuals who enjoy working in a recreation center environment and making a positive impact.

This position assists with planning, coordinating, and facilitating recreational programs and activities for community members. Responsibilities include preparing facilities such as recreation centers, meeting rooms, fields, and courts for scheduled events; setting up and breaking down equipment (e.g., sports equipment, audio-visual equipment, tables, and chairs); and ensuring all spaces are safe, clean, and ready for use.

The role also involves monitoring participants, providing guidance on proper equipment use and safety, enforcing City policies and procedures, and supporting a welcoming and inclusive environment. Additionally, the position requires inspecting equipment for needed repairs, reporting issues, and returning equipment to designated storage areas after program completion.

Additional Information
  • Hours: Up to 19 hours per week, scheduled as needed
  • Hourly rate: $15.15
  • FLSA status: Non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week)
  • Work locations: Various Locations Available
  • Sick Time: Accrues at .034 hours per-hour-paid

Responsibilities
  • Assist in day-to-day operations (including set-up and organization) of various recreation programs, events and activities.
  • Sets up and takes down equipment for activities and events; supervises and coaches participants as directed.
  • Monitors program participants, enforces rules and regulations, and monitors security of facilities.
  • Interacts with the public in responding to questions and assisting in preparation for programs and events.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge of
  • Parks and Recreation department policies and regulations
  • Various types of recreation programs (i.e. athletic games, drama, gaming, music, dance and/or computers).
Ability to
  • Interact with citizens in a fun, friendly and courteous manner; interact effectively and courteously with the public and other employees.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

Special Requirements
  • Must have/obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within 30 days of Hire
