About Us

The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas: the Parks Division and the Recreation Division.

  • The Parks Division manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park. The Division is also responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of park and facility use.
  • The Recreation Division offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health of our community through a variety of diverse recreation programs and facilities. Recreation programs and events are held at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, the Glendale Adult Center, Historic Sahuaro Ranch, the five community centers and at basketball, tennis, skate courts and other recreation facilities throughout the city.
The Role

The first review of applications for Summer 2026 will occur on March 20, 2026
.

Interview Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026
. Candidates will be evaluated on a variety of skills both in the water and on land. Applicants should plan to keep this date available, as it may be the only interview opportunity. Candidates who are invited but do not attend the skills testing may forfeit further consideration.

Interview invitations will be sent no later than March 26, 2026
. Interview capacity may be limited based on the City’s hiring needs.

Notifications of job offers for candidates who interview are anticipated by April 11, 2026
.

The City of Glendale Aquatics Center is hiring for Temporary Aquatics Lifeguard positions. Applicants must be available for the primary summer season, which runs from mid‑May through early September. Opportunities may also be available within our year‑round aquatics operations.

Required training sessions for individuals selected for hire will be scheduled as needed.

The listed positions for summer are up to 40 hours per week for up to 14 weeks with no benefits, as well as a possible opportunity to work up to 20 hours per week for up to the remaining 38 weeks in the year with no benefits. The summer jobs will be performed at both our Rose Lane Aquatics Center (5003 West Marlette Ave, 85301) and our Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center (5600 West Union Hills Drive, 85308).

If selected to work winter lifeguarding from August 2026 through May 2027, that location will be at our Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center. Staff are required to work at either location as assigned. You are hired to the City of Glendale Aquatics Staff, not to a specific pool.

Aquatics positions within the City of Glendale require certifications BEFORE hiring.

City of Glendale offers Lifeguard Training for new Lifeguards typically occurs between February 2026 and March 2026, but we do accept trainings from other entities that teach Lifeguarding from American Red Cross or Star Guard. American Red Cross is preferred.
