ABOUT

The AIS Infrastructure Group consists of four heavy civil construction companies. Our services include infrastructure improvement, heavy civil construction, and site development for government and state agencies and private enterprise across the United States. We do a wide variety of heavy civil projects, including highways, bridges, and DOT work, power plants, dams and reservoirs, underground utilities, and more.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

A Construction Water Truck/Haul Truck Driver is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that performs on construction projects any combination of the duties described more fully below. The primary function is to safely load and secure equipment and/or materials and move them from one location to another. This position may also perform a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the workflow dictates.

MAJOR

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safely operate a large truck to transport construction materials and equipment to and from job sites.
  • Secure and properly load/unload cargo onto the truck, ensuring it is properly secured and balanced.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and ensure all necessary documentation is completed accurately. Checking fluid levels on oil, water, fuel and inspections for leaks and damage to vehicle prior to operation, daily.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and safety protocols while operating the flatbed truck.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatchers, and team members regarding job assignments and any potential issues or delays.
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, and company safety regulations.
  • Display a strong commitment to safe work practices.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to safely drive a water tanker, flatbed and/or other commercial vehicles as required within driver license guidelines and with the required driver license endorsements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance to access secured facilities, including military bases.
  • Ability to successfully pass DOT background requirements, including drug and alcohol screening, MVR review, and DOT physical examination.
  • Valid commercial driver's license (Class A CDL) and driving record with MVR policy guidelines.
  • Familiarity with the safe operation of construction and/or paving equipment.
  • Knowledge of all USDOT & FMCSA safety regulations, DOT logs, and inspections.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, GPS systems, and job site instructions.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and supervisors.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, day or night shifts as required.
  • Experience with airbrakes and standard transmission.
  • Ability to drive trucks equipped with different trailer combinations.
  • Ability to calculate weights of equipment with truck/trailer combo to stay within DOT permitting restrictions and guidelines.
  • Required to carry a current medical examiner's certification (FMCSR part 391.41)
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position lifts heavy objects (up to 150lbs with assistance), walks (often on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions) and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects.
