Overview
The USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is seeking a Program Assistant in the Institute for Ethics and Trust in Computing. The Institute, part of the USC Frontiers of Computing initiative, is a cross-disciplinary effort that engages with emerging computing technologies to promote public trust and societal well-being. Its co-directors are John Hawthorne and Yan Liu.
The successful applicant will assist with the running of the institute, including planning conferences, workshops and colloquia; maintaining the institute website; keeping records of collaborative research sponsored by the institute; providing administrative support for grant applications; and performing other related duties as assigned. The position can be hybrid, though some on-campus presence will be required. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Desirablequalifications
- Experience coordinating academic events, workshops, or conferences, including logistics such as travel arrangements, accommodations, catering, and event scheduling.
- Familiarity with university administrative processes, including budget tracking, reimbursement procedures, and internal funding request or approval workflows.
- Experience with website maintenance and social media and other public-facing communications.
- Strong organizational skills and written communication skills
- Comfort handling financial information with accuracy and discretion.
- Interest in or familiarity with ethics, technology policy, and AI governance.
The hourly rate range for this position is $23.52 - $28.40. The position is 50% part time and funded on gifts and contracts. When extending an offer of employment, USC considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer alignment, and applicable laws, contract stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
