DEFINITION:


Performs a variety of specialized duties related to the care and education of young children ranging from 6-months through preschool age and the training of college students at the Child Development Center and Parent Support Center.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Supervision is provided by the Director of the Child Development Center or Assistant Director of the Child Development Center.

Work direction is provided by appropriate child development faculty.

Provides work direction to student workers and college students in child development courses.


WORK SCHEDULE

This is a temporary substitute position on an as needed basis.

Schedule will vary as needed for coverage.
Creates portfolios for children to document each child's growth and development, including anecdotal notes, photos, videos, and work samples.

Assesses assigned children's social, emotional, cognitive and physical development using the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP); uses these assessment results to guide curriculum planning.

Scores and assesses developmental screenings (e.g., Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE))to identify health or developmental factors related to a child's learning or development.

Delivers curriculum covering all areas of child development including social, emotional, cognitive physical, literacy, and language.

Performs daily care routines with children (e.g., diapering, grooming, feeding, and toileting) in compliance with District, State, and Federal established laws, codes, regulations, policies, procedures, standards, and requirements (e.g., Title 22 Division 12 of the California Code of Regulations and The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Early Learning Program Accreditation Standards).

Interacts with children in a developmentally appropriate manner, including acknowledging children's emotions and redirecting challenging behaviors in accordance with the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) to promote a positive climate in the classroom,

Serves simple nutritional meals and designated snacks to children, including monitoring children's consumption of meals, ensuring children's participation in setting and cleaning up for each meal, and recording meal count in accordance with Federal food and nutrition guidelines (e.g., Title 7 Code of Federal Regulations) and Child Care and Adult Food Program (CACFP) requirements.

Provides work direction to and mentors college students assigned to the Child Development Center, including monitoring and recording students' lab, volunteer, and work hours and reviewing and evaluating student prepared lesson plans based on faculty prepared rubrics. May provide work direction to and mentor college students assigned to the Parent Support Center.

Prepares and provides input on safe, effective, and supportive environments for learning by setting up and supervising interest centers (e.g., art, science, and block centers) and exhibits of children's work in accordance with process quality standards as assessed by the Infant/Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS), Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), and Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS).

Maintains departmental areas in a safe, clean and orderly condition including cleaning up classrooms, outdoor play areas, workrooms, and kitchens as well as sanitizing toys and play equipment with safe and proper cleaning solutions in order to ensure compliance with established District, State, and other safety procedures and regulations (e.g., Title 22;
Division 12 of the California Code of Regulations, NAEYC Program Accreditation Standards, and Early Head Start/Head Start performance standards).

Maintains documentation and records including those related to home visits, attendance, curriculum, daily care routines, and parent conferences as required by established State procedures and regulations and early childhood education standards [e.g., Title 22;
