Position: Emergency Medical Technology (EMT) Instructor

This is a full-time, tenure-track classroom teaching assignment in the Division of Health Sciences.  The current teaching load is 24 instructional hours per week. Members of the full-time faculty will hold five office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development, and campus committees is required.  

The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online and hybrid format, evening and/or Saturday classes.

Start Date:

Fall 2026

Teach courses in emergency medical services using various teaching methods including demonstrations, active learning strategies, lectures, and clinical experiences in patient care.

Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.

Maintain regular posted office hours and be accessible to students.

Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.

Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum, policies, and procedures for the program.

Assist in the program accreditation process.

Participate in campus governance and professional activities (e.g. committees, scheduling, leadership positions, faculty meetings, etc.).

Participate in staff development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives.

Work to achieve the college's Institutional, Program, and Student Learning Outcomes in support of Glendale Community College's Mission Statement.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.

Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Performs other instructional-related duties as assigned.

Any Bachelor's or higher AND two years of experience in emergency medical technology and any certificate or license required to do that work

OR any Associate's degree AND any six years of experience in emergency medical technology AND any certificate or license required to do that work

OR the equivalent.

Desirable

Qualifications:

Current State of California Paramedic license

Current AHA CPR Instructor Card

National Association of Emergency Medical Services Educators (NAEMSE) Level I and II courses.

Experience teaching Emergency Medical Services courses at the college or university level.  

Experience using a learning management system (LMS).

Experience in curriculum development.

Knowledge about or experience working with students who are underrepresented in higher academia, with the goal of reducing equity gaps.

Teaching experience that reflects innovative pedagogy, including active learning and culturally responsive teaching practices.

Experience with the development and teaching of distance education classes.
