Afterschool STEM Instructor

Overview

At Mad Science, we are having a BLAST! We pay you to have fun! Build and fly rockets, demonstrate lasers, explore the states of matter using dry ice, and help children create slime and other polymers. You will inspire the next generation of scientists through our innovative activities that show kids what science is really all about. Mad Science is the world's leading provider of fun science programs for elementary-aged children.

This is a part-time position and is somewhat seasonal. Pay for all Areas of Business (AOB) is hourly - including set-up and clean-up time. Starting pay is $22.00-$25.00 per hour DOE, plus mileage compensation!!

• Facilitating day camps, in-person workshops, and after-school science enrichment programs for children from preschool through elementary school
• Deliver high-energy, part entertainment, part education, hands-on programs that meet for one hour each week for approximately 8-12 weeks.
• Drive to various locations across Los Angeles counties
• Enjoy teaching young children the art of science!
• Attend paid training sessions virtually or at our office.
• Attend the mandatory Friday Staff Meeting every week (paid).
• Be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
• Be on time for all scheduled activities.
• Adhere to strict safety and cleanliness guidelines.

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must be available a minimum of three consistent weekday afternoons, 12-5pm. While this is a part-time position, it is critical that you are able to commit to the length of any given program (school season, camp session, after-school program, etc.), and that you are able to give us steady weekly availability.
• Must have an insured, personal vehicle as you will be transporting equipment and conducting programs at schools and organizations across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
• Must be available for mandatory Friday meeting, 11am-12pm
• Some experience teaching/working with groups of elementary-age (4-12) children (such as an after-school teacher or camp counselor).
• Minimum of 1 year of college suggested. Degrees and/or graduate degrees are a plus.
• THEATRE EXPERIENCE IS A PLUS!

We train you in the curriculum and provide all materials. Mad Science classes follow the school calendar and are presented year-round. This is rewarding work if it fits with your schedule and lifestyle.
