Responsibilities
The Hazing Prevention and Leadership Development Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director for Student Organizations and Services in Campus Activities and is a key leader within USC Student Life and the University. This role coordinates campus prevention education and leadership development focused on hazing prevention and risk education for communities such as Student Organizations, Fraternities and Sororities, Club Sports, the Trojan Marching Band, and other specialized student populations.
HazingPrevention Responsibilities
- Lead hazing prevention work for Student Life, including increasing awareness, reporting, and educating the campus community to shift the culture away from hazing and hazing-like behaviors.
- Be a member of the university-wide Hazing Prevention Taskforce.
- Lead the programming and planning for Hazing Prevention Week in the Fall and Spring semesters.
- Facilitate and create hazing prevention workshops for student organizations and make workshops available for student requests.
- Facilitate hazing prevention trainings for Student Life departments as requested.
- Represent Campus Activities on university committees or task forces as needed and related to the position’s role.
- Consult with the Office of Community Expectations on alleged hazing cases to support outcomes.
- Serve as a liaison to Fraternity and Sorority Life, Spirit Programs, Rec Sports, and other student organization areas for hazing prevention education, resources, and collaborations.
- Develop hazing-specific educational initiatives utilized across the university.
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders to provide hazing prevention education and ensure program content aligns with the university’s prevention goals.
- Stay updated on state and federal laws and policies that impact hazing prevention and ensure education supports all compliance obligations.
- Serve as a resource and referral agent for students who wish to report hazing incidents.
- Train student leaders and staff on signs of hazing and other high-risk behaviors.
- Attend and participate in the Hazing Prevention Institute when possible.
- Coordinate, implement, and track Prevention Zone modules for student leaders.
- Conduct regular assessments of hazing prevention and other risk prevention education for effectiveness and relevance.
- Assist with recruitment and training of student workers.
- Develop learning outcomes for hazing prevention education and workshops.
- Support university, division, and department initiatives.
- Attend some night and weekend meetings/programs as required.
- Work collaboratively with campus partners, students, and organization members on leadership and hazing trainings, including with minors and cross‑campus event organization and policy compliance.
- Implement leadership education related to safety and risk mitigation for student organizations as part of the recognition process.
- Develop and implement group responsibility and leadership workshops and other educational sanctions related to student organization conduct.
- Collaborate with campus partners to develop a multi‑dose, multi‑year curriculum addressing high‑risk behavior for Recognized Student Organizations across campus.
- Support the Assistant Director with RSO case follow‑up and fulfillment of outcomes, and facilitate RSO meetings around intergroup dynamics/conflict mediation.
- Create and implement plans for virtual engagement and updates for students.
- Supervise student workers and oversee their work/projects related to RSO, Leadership, and Hazing Prevention initiatives.
- Support, create, and update the student organization recognition process.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree or combined experience/education as a substitute for minimum education.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience working with college students in an advisory capacity in a division or department of student affairs or related area.
- Experience building partnerships and collaborating across departments in a post‑secondary institution, including work with the fraternity and sorority community.
