JOB SUMMARY

Support the Southern California Conference ( SCC ) in accomplishing its mission, “to exalt Christ by cultivating healthy churches and schools” and its core values of integrity with transparency, engagement, stewardship, unity in diversity, and relationships & team.

Glendale Adventist Academy is seeking a half-time Choral Director to uphold and enhance its esteemed musical tradition for the  school year and beyond. Currently the school has a TK-12 music program that includes choir and band programs for junior high and high school. Additionally, there is a select choir and jazz band in the high school. Candidates must be passionate Christian educators willing to collaborate with colleagues, possess effective classroom management skills, and be able to establish positive relationships with parents as well as members of our local community.

ESSENTIAL

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Regular attendance—M-Th afternoons, occasional evening concerts and Sabbath performances, high school music tour.
  • Teach choir to grades 5, 6, 7, & 8; teach high school choir and high school chorale
  • Plan classroom program according to prescribed standards and content:
    • Develop long-range plans for the school year.
    • Ensure that Adventist standards are intentionally included in lesson plans.
    • Adapt daily plans to meet the needs of the students’ instructional levels.
    • Infuse faith and learning into all lessons.
    • Design lessons with relevant content, skills, and values.
  • Deliver differentiated instruction in engaging all students at all times and to ensure every child learns through techniques, structures, and strategies designed to meet each student’s needs.
    • Techniques – effective steps designed to organize or manage the classroom environment creating an inclusive, supportive and caring classroom.
    • Structures – planned processes designed to organize interaction of individuals to build a learning community.
    • Strategies – researched-based methods of teaching that leads to successful learning.
  • Supervise children closely inside the classroom and in all related activities.
  • Communicate with parents in a timely manner in reporting student progress and school activities.
  • Communicate regularly, openly and honestly with the principal.
  • Establish proper handover of children, relevant information, and belongings to parents and/or next teacher.
  • Participate in all emergency drills (earthquakes, fire, lockdown, etc.).
  • Refrain from discussing confidential or sensitive information with unauthorized persons.
  • Manifest high regard for the teaching profession in grooming, demeanor, and use of social media in all its forms.
  • Participate in the activities and programs the school sponsors as well as accept and implement requested responsibilities.
  • Represent the Seventh-day Adventist Church in a positive manner.
  • Help students develop respect for, and loyalty to, principles of democracy and commitment to efforts for safeguarding, strengthening, and improving these principles.
  • Be aware of community needs and activities and lend support to efforts to improve the quality of life for citizens of the community.
  • Evidence of physical and emotional health required for working with children.
  • Participate in continual and professional development programs and activities.
  • Comply with policies and procedures of SCC, including but not limited to those in the Employee Handbook, and the North American Division Working Policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
    • To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
    • Must be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist church in good standing.
    • Evidence of the physical and emotional health required for working with students.
