Position: Rockwork Engineer Sr (PH)

Overview

Senior Rockwork Engineer (Project Hire/Internal Assignment) – Glendale, CA. This role is within Walt Disney Imagineering’s Rockwork Engineering team, responsible for the structural engineering, coordination, and technical integration of rockwork elements for themed attractions. This is a project hire with no guarantee of permanent placement.

What You Will Do
  • Manage the design and engineering of complex rockwork structures.
  • Coordinate rockwork design documents, models, specifications, and basis of design with AR, ST, MEP, Civil, Landscape, Show, Ride, Creative disciplines, and Rockwork Contractor, considering programmatic requirements (Operational Stakeholders).
  • Lead technical coordination of rockwork design and construction, including facilitating meetings and maintaining an issues resolution log (IRL) or similar document.
  • Organize and develop project design criteria, engineering work plans, rockwork schedules, meetings, and work plans for projects of varying complexity.
  • Facilitate quality assurance and control of design documentation and field construction.
  • Direct project team members on coordination and integration activities related to the technical scope of work, including 3rd party architecture and engineering consultants.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled project meetings with project teams, consultants, and contractors.
  • Provide project teams with rockwork design and construction details, lessons learned, and rockwork standards information to inform rockwork specifications.
  • Monitor work progress to ensure technical quality, interdisciplinary coordination, and production requirements are met.
  • Answer construction bid period questions and respond to and resolve field issues and questions.
  • Provide technical direction to in-house engineers and designers, and to outside consultants in the production of construction contract documents.
  • May lead a small team of rockwork engineers and designers across multiple attractions of medium complexity through all design phases.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Graduate of an accredited engineering school with a Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of structural engineering, including current technologies and codes, with emphasis on steel and concrete structures.
  • Familiarity with the structural engineering discipline, industry practices, construction methods and materials, codes, and the preparation and use of contract documents in all design and construction phases.
  • Knowledge of analytical software for structural engineering design.
  • A minimum of 6 years of work experience in civil, structural, and/or project engineering.
  • A minimum of 2 years managing a small team of structural or rockwork engineers and designers in producing contract documents for construction.
  • Construction phase experience including submittal/shop drawing reviews and on-site field inspections.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of structural design programs such as SAP
    2000, ETABS, and RISA.
  • Proven experience with 3D modeling software:
    Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, Navisworks, BIM
    360.
  • Engineer or Architect in Training certification is preferred.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in California and/or Florida is desirable.
Education
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited school.
  • An advanced degree in structural engineering is preferred.
  • Progression toward professional licensure is desirable.

Hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $115,500 - $154,800 per year. Base pay may vary based on internal equity, geographic region, and experience. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
