The Mortgage Lending Officer role is a developing professional position focused on monitoring and assessing mortgage processes and data. The officer works closely with retail branch partners, operations, and community business development to originate high‑quality residential real‑estate loans for clients and referral partners.
Responsibilities- Consult with customers about financial situations, objectives, and lending needs to help achieve home ownership goals.
- Collect and analyze financial information—including income, assets, debts, cash flow, credit history—to assess eligibility.
- Make an initial assessment of qualification for specific lending solutions and recommend the best options.
- Advise customers on risks, benefits, and alternatives of available lending solutions.
- Promote Citi and its financial products to real estate agencies, builders, and other referral sources.
- Visit customers outside Citi’s offices as required to drive mortgage business.
- Collaborate with internal partners (Operations, Processors/Closers, Underwriters) to ensure seamless loan transfer and timely closing.
- Engage with key referral relationships such as Realtors, CPAs, builders, and introduce clients to segment partners (Bank, Wealth Management, Small Business, Cards, etc.).
- Stay informed on market trends, rules, and regulations, expanding networks to better serve clients.
- Appropriately assess risk and maintain compliance with laws, rules, and policies, safeguarding Citi’s reputation.
- 2-5 years of relevant experience with 3+ years of mortgage sales experience.
- Experience in residential mortgage and established book of business.
- Proven product sales capability and familiarity with FHA, VA, and conventional loans.
- Strong ability to comprehend and explain financial calculations and pricing alternatives.
- Excellent communication and customer‑service skills, with the ability to explain documentation requirements.
- Knowledge of consumer lending laws and regulations, including fair lending, privacy, and RESPA.
- Strong relationship development and management skills, with expertise in general lending products and the mortgage industry.
- Must be registered as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry and obtain a unique identifier before engaging in mortgage loan originator activities.
Bachelor’s degree from a university or equivalent experience.
