Health Connections Inc. (HCI) is a Milwaukee-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit community health organization delivering care through a hybrid clinic and community model. Medical Assistants at HCI are essential members of a collaborative care team. MAs support high-quality clinical care in the clinic while also assisting with screenings, events, and outreach in community settings. This role is ideal for Medical Assistants who value patient-centered care, teamwork, and meaningful community impact.
Position SummaryThe Medical Assistant (MA) supports clinical operations and community-based services at Health Connections Inc. The MA assists providers and nurses with patient care, ensures smooth clinic flow, supports preventive screenings, and helps deliver culturally responsive care in both clinic and community environments.
Compensation
$20–$25 per hour, commensurate with experience and funding source
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities (In-Clinic)- Perform patient intake, including medical history, chief complaint, medication review, and social needs screening
- Take and record vital signs
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during visits
- Perform point-of-care testing per protocol
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens; perform phlebotomy if certified
- Administer medications and vaccines as directed (within scope)
- Support prescription refills and patient communications
- Maintain accurate EMR documentation
- Clean, stock, and prepare exam rooms
- Follow infection control, OSHA, and HIPAA standards
- Support health fairs, mobile clinics, vaccination events, and outreach activities
- Assist with registration, screening flow, forms, and patient education
- Conduct blood pressure checks and approved screenings
- Work alongside RNs, CHWs, volunteers, and partners
- Represent HCI professionally in community settings
- Document community encounters accurately
- Assist with appointment scheduling, referrals, and follow-up calls
- Support navigation for preventive screenings and specialty care
- Communicate clearly with patients regarding next steps
- Escalate clinical concerns appropriately
- Participate in team huddles, trainings, and staff meetings
- Collaborate across clinical and community teams
- Support grant-funded initiatives and special projects
- Strong clinical and organizational skills

- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) required
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Assistant experience required
- Outpatient or community clinic experience preferred
- Phlebotomy experience preferred
- CPR/BLS certification required
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors
- Fast-paced clinic and community environments
