Brief Description
At Forest Lawn, the role of the Licensed Embalmer (+2 yrs) is an integral part of the organization's operations in serving client families with the utmost care, compassion, and dignity. This role in responsible for the preparation of decedents for interment or cremation and performs embalming, dressing, casketing, cosmetics, and mortuary related duties.
What You’ll Be Doing- Conduct case analysis on loved ones who come into Forest Lawn’s care.
- Perform disinfection through external application of antiseptics and fluids.
- Embalm with appropriate authorizations to ensure proper disinfection, preservation and appearance. Use all proper embalming instruments and machinery.
- Dress and apply cosmetics in accordance with the wishes of the family; conduct restorative art as needed.
- Casket placement with proper procedures.
- Meet with client families to ensure satisfaction and make adjustments as requested and necessary.
- Make proper inspections to ensure final disposition in accordance with Forest Lawn policies and procedures.
- Prepare visitation room set up to comply with the client family’s wishes.
- Conduct first calls as needed.
- Properly complete and maintain all necessary paperwork to comply with all applicable laws and Forest Lawn policies and procedures.
- Stock and clean preparation room and cooling unit. Maintain the cleanliness of the mortuary building and restrooms when needed.
- Maintain jewelry log book, order supplies, host/lead the quality control meetings
- Instruct and oversee work of Apprentice Embalmer. Provide training and mentorship.
- Maintain a safe work environment and abide by all safety standards. Attend all safety and SDS meetings. Wear proper clothing and equipment at all times.
- Maintain positive relationships with all Forest Lawn employees and foster a teamwork environment.
- Other duties as needed.
- Current valid California Embalmer License.
- Completed apprenticeship.
- Licensed to perform duties as a Licensed Embalmer defined by the state of California for over 2 years.
- Able to carry an apprentice. Experience with carrying an apprentice is a plus.
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school within Mortuary Science
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- Ability to lift 100lbs.
- Able to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
- Able to work independently with little supervision.
