Position Summary

As the Director of Learning Technologies, you will lead the delivery and support of the university’s learning management system (LMS) and related learning technologies within ITS. You ensure that learning technologies support teaching, learning, and engagement across the university, collaborate with faculty, academic leadership, and IT stakeholders to maintain system reliability, guide enhancements, and manage vendor relationships.

Job Accountabilities
  • Directly or indirectly supervise assigned staff, recruiting, hiring, training, assessing professional growth, evaluating performance, and providing guidance.
  • Set departmental goals, objectives, and communicate them to staff; reassess priorities as needed.
  • Participate in planning and administration of departmental and project budgets.
  • Consult users on system development project requests; communicate project goals, deliverables, schedules; direct staff to adhere to plans and follow up with users.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals for system upgrades and hardware/software purchases; analyze feasibility.
  • Develop internal operating policies and procedures; document and disseminate to staff and users.
  • Manage communication among faculty, staff, students, and teams to resolve issues, manage high‑visibility outages, lead root cause analysis, and communicate mitigation steps.
  • Engage collaborative relationships with university leaders, IT service leaders, and staff to gain credibility and influence.
  • Collaborate on short‑ and long‑term plans that support competitive strategies, fiscal requirements, and governance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combined experience/education.
  • 7 years of work experience, including 5+ years in Learning Management Systems leadership, academic technology, or related fields.
  • Directly relevant experience providing technical expertise, supervisory and budget management experience.
  • Ability to collaborate with academic communities to adopt technologies that improve learning outcomes and student success.
  • Demonstrated experience managing learning management systems and associated technologies, delivering effective service and support to campus communities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • 7+ years of work experience in related fields.
  • Experience leading or managing an LMS such as Brightspace, Canvas, or Blackboard.
  • Background in higher education, academic technology, or educational technology environments.
  • Experience supporting enterprise application platforms used across large, complex organizations.
  • Experience building relationships with faculty, academic leadership, and administrative units.
  • Experience participating in cross‑functional governance groups or committees.
