Job Description:
As an essential part of the patient care team, the Registered Nurse (RN) supports the Chief Nursing Officer in leading the unit to ensure patient safety, recovery, and comfort. Responsibilities include implementing the nursing process, providing education and advocacy, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as CMS Conditions of Participation, Title 22, CDPH regulations, and DNV-GL/NIAHO standards.
The RN collaborates with department management to improve quality and expand services, demonstrating leadership within the team and across departments. The role involves making patient care decisions within the scope of practice, based on patient acuity and classification, and acting on assessments with accountability for creating a healing environment, preventing harm, educating patients, and providing compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and delivering patient care during shifts.
- Participate in unit planning and quality improvement initiatives.
- Precept and validate competencies of new hires and students.
- Delegate tasks appropriately to RNs, LVNs, and CNAs.
- Coordinate with assigned team and communicate effectively regarding interventions, reports, and event updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education:
- Graduation from a Registered Nurse Program.
- BSN preferred; if not obtained upon hire, to be completed within 5 years.
Experience & Knowledge:
- At least 1 year of clinical experience in an acute care setting preferred.
- Experience with orthopedic and stroke patient populations is a plus.
Specialized Experience (if applicable):
- Cardiac Cath Lab Nurses: 1 year in acute care (ICU, ER, etc.) and in IR, EP, or Cath Lab preferred.
- Med/Surg Nurses: 2 years with orthopedic and medical-surgical experience preferred; certification in specialty areas advantageous.
Licenses &
Certifications:
- California RN License required.
- Certifications such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, AB508, NIHSS, ENPC depending on unit and specialty, must be active and compliant with AHA standards.
