Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing has received approval by the Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) and has recently introduced an Associate of Arts degree in Nursing at the campus in Glendale
Adjunct RN (Med-Surg) Clinical Instructors wanted - Varies (we have rotations available on each given day of the week 12 hours plus 3 hours prep time) up to 32 hours
POSITION SUMMARY
The Adjunct Clinical Instructor - Medical-Surgical Nursing provides clinical supervision and instruction to Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) students in acute care settings. The instructor facilitates the application of nursing theory to practice, ensures safe and effective patient care, and evaluates student clinical performance in alignment with program objectives and regulatory standards.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Instruction and Supervision
- Supervise and instruct ADN students during medical-surgical clinical rotations in healthcare facilities.
- Guide students in delivering safe, competent, and patient-centered care to adult patients with acute and chronic conditions.
- Support student learning in areas including:
- Patient assessment and clinical decision-making
- Medication administration
- Care planning and implementation
- Documentation and communication
- Infection control and patient safety
- Ensure compliance with clinical policies, procedures, and safety standards at all times.
- Evaluate student clinical performance through direct observation, skills validation, and clinical assignments.
- Provide immediate, constructive feedback to support development of clinical judgment and technical skills.
- Complete required clinical evaluations (midterm and final) in accordance with program policies.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, competencies, and performance.
- Collaborate with clinical site staff to coordinate student assignments and learning opportunities.
- Communicate clinical objectives, expectations, and daily assignments clearly to students.
- Serve as a liaison between the nursing program and the clinical facility.
- Ensure clinical experiences align with course objectives and student learning outcomes.
- Serve as a professional role model demonstrating safe, ethical, and compassionate nursing care.
- Support students in developing confidence, accountability, and critical thinking skills.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive clinical learning environment.
- Maintain current clinical competency in medical-surgical nursing practice.
- Stay current with evidence-based practice, healthcare trends, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies and applicable Board of Nursing regulation
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required;
Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
- Current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable CA state.
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing within the last five years.
- Prior clinical teaching, precepting, or mentoring experience preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Adult health and medical-surgical nursing
- Patient assessment and care planning
- Medication administration and safety
- Clinical documentation and communication
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
