Position: Registered Nurse - Surgery - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Union)

Position Overview

As an integral member of the patient care team, the Registered Nurse supports the Chief Nursing Officer in leading the patient care team in providing for the safety, recovery and comfort of patients by implementing the nursing process (assessment, nursing diagnosis, developing the plan of care and the education plan; implementation of interventions, evaluation of interventions and revision of plan as needed);

and provides education and advocacy.

Practices in compliance with regulatory requirements including CMS Conditions of Participation, Title 22, CDPH regulations, DNV-GL/NIAHO standards, etc. The Registered Nurse supports department manager and director in quality improvement and growth of unit services; leadership in collaboration with co-workers and other departments; management of efficient services with meaningful and valuable outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Assist charge nurse with planning delivery of patient care for the shift.
  • Contribute to overall unit planning and improvement.
  • Precept and validate competency of new hires and new procedures.
  • Teach nursing students.
  • Delegate tasks to other RNs, LVNs, CNAs as indicated.
  • Coordinate assigned team, communicate expectations to assigned staff (interventions; report back; etc.).
  • Identify improvement opportunities, provide information through chain of command, report unusual events, other duties as assigned.
  • Make judgments and decisions about patient care and act on assessments performed.
  • Provide a healing environment for recovery and safe passage of patients through their episode of care in the hospital; prevent harm; educate patients about their condition and the implementation of self–care actions; educate about abnormal findings and when and how to report to their caregiver; provide comfort and compassionate care.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduation from a Registered Nurse Program. BSN desired (will obtain within 5 years if not on hire).
  • 1 year clinical experience in an acute care setting preferred; experience in treating orthopedic and stroke patient population preferred.
  • For Cardiac Cath Lab Nurses: 1 year nursing experience in an acute care setting such as the ICU, stepdown, or ER preferred; 1 year+ IR, EP, or Cardiac Cath Lab experience preferred.
  • For 6th Floor Med/Surg Employees:
    Two years’ experience with orthopedic and medical‑surgical nursing preferred; certification in Medical‑Surgical, Orthopedic or other specialty preferred.
Licensure and Certifications
  • California Registered Nurse License.
  • Certification in clinical specialty or management desired.
  • Required certifications:
    BLS
    , ACLS
    , PALS (varies by unit);
    AB508 (within 30 days of hire for ED),
    NIHSS (within 30 days of hire for ED),
    NRP (within 6 months of hire for ED),
    ENPC (within 12 months of hire for ED);
    AHA certification required for BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP. All certifications must be active effective date of hire/transfer unless otherwise indicated.
Compensation

The hourly rate range for this position is $47.58 to $76.68.
