PROMOTIONAL EXAMINATION - ONE YEAR PROBATION PERIOD

NOTE:

This recruitment is restricted to City of Glendale employees who meet the promotional eligibility requirement as noted below.

In accordance with Civil Service Rule IV, Section 17, and at the request of the Police Department, the eligible list for this list shall be in effect for one year.

Job Description

This classification performs first line supervisory police work.

Classification Code: 7101

Reporting Relationships

This position reports to a Police Lieutenant.

Cyber Security

Actively participate in maintaining a secure computing environment by adhering to and implementing City cybersecurity policies, procedures, and best practices. This includes understanding common cyber threats such as phishing and malware, and promptly reporting suspicious activities.

Minimum Requirements

The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent.

Sixty (60) college semester units; A.A. or A.S. degree preferred.

Experience

Three years’ experience as a current Glendale Police Officer, including one year in the assignment of Field Patrol Officer.

Certifications / Licenses

Intermediate POST certificate.

Transportation

A Valid California Driver’s License.

Working Conditions

Work may be performed indoors or outside in a variety of field and weather conditions.

Evening work may be required.

Weekend or holiday work may be required.

Emergency response may be required 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Work is performed on a 24-hour rotating shift.

Promotional Eligibility

Any employee at the rank of Police Officer who meets all of the minimum requirements as stated above, has completed probation and is occupying a permanent full‑time classification on file in Human Resources. Pursuant to CSC Rule VIII, Section 4G, all conditions for eligibility must be satisfied no later than 30 days after the final filing date.

Selection Process

Selection will involve a written examination (20%) followed by oral assessment panels (Professional Panel Interview 50% and Promotability Assessment Interview 30%). Candidates must achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on each examination component to be placed on the eligible list.
