OPEN & PROMOTIONAL EXAMINATION - SIX MONTHS PROBATIONARY PERIOD
This is the entry level classification in the Building Repairer Series.
Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards.
Performs rough and finish carpentry on buildings and equipment, including repair and replacement of locks, doors, windows and building hardware, using power and hand tools.
Conducts minor repairs to plumbing fixtures and appliances, and assembles and connects fixtures and appliances used in plumbing and drainage systems. May install and repair manual and automatic landscape irrigation systems. May inspect, repair and certify proper operation of water cross-connection devices. Clears drains and gutters.
Performs minor electrical work including the installation and repair of electrical conduit, wiring, panel boards, switches, light fixtures, time controls and other electrical equipment. Replaces lamps in ceiling and outdoor fixtures.
Performs minor HVAC work including filter changes, thermostat installation and programming, troubleshooting, duct cleaning, and duct installation.
Assembles, installs and repairs furnishings and/or playground equipment, using hand or power tools, or welding equipment.
Constructs and repairs masonry walls, stucco, sidewalks, and curbs. Constructs concrete forms from blueprints, sketches or instructions. Installs, replaces and repairs flooring such as vinyl and ceramic tile and carpeting; installs cove base.
Repairs roofs of all types, including composition, roll, and tile roofs.
Drives City truck to work locations in outlying City facilities including trailering equipment.
Loads and unloads heavy materials and moves heavy furnishings and equipment.
Paints using brush, roller and spray equipment.
Uses desktop computer, tablet and cell phone for managing work orders and communications.
Responds to emergencies and is available to work during evenings, weekends and holidays and in case of emergencies or natural disasters.
Works in a team oriented environment.
Works on rooftops, basements, crawl spaces, confined spaces, and other construction type work environments.
Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.
ExperienceFour years of journey-level experience in performing skilled building construction or repair work involving several of the skilled trades.
Education/TrainingGraduation from high school or attainment of GED or CHSPE certificate.
License(s)/Certification(s)Valid Class C California driver's license.

Any City of Glendale employee who meets the minimum qualifications for this position, has completed probation or six months of City employment, and is occupying a permanent full-time classification on file in the Human Resources Department. Hourly City employees may be considered, provided that they furnish proof of continuous employment immediately preceding the final filing date, which would equal a minimum of six months of full-time service or 1040 part-time hours.
