Definition
Under general supervision, performs unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work related to one or more building trades; executes work order requests; surveys, maintains, repairs, installs, and cleans campus equipment and interior/exterior facilities including various appliances, fixtures, machinery, and devices; excavates and/or compacts soil for various electrical and plumbing projects; and performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision
Works under the direct supervision of a department manager.
Does not directly or indirectly supervise other employees but may provide work direction to lower-level employees and/or temporary employees.
Work Schedule
40 Hours/Week, 12 Months/Year
Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities are typical of those performed in this classification.
* Performs unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work related to one or more building trades.
* Executes work order requests.
* Surveys, maintains, repairs, installs and cleans campus equipment and interior/exterior facilities including various appliances, fixtures, machinery, and devices.
* Excavates and/or compacts soil for various electrical and plumbing projects.
* Assembles, repairs, and maintains modular workstations and furnishings as assigned.
* Maintains required records and inventory; prepares progress and other reports.
* Operates electric vehicles as necessary
* May provide work direction to lower-level employees and /or temporary employees.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The education, training, and experience qualifications are considered likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the above essential duties.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two (2) years of semi-skilled maintenance experience that included repairs in buildings.
Licenses/Certifications/Other Requirements:
* Possession of a valid California driver's license is required.
Knowledge of:
* Safe work methods and safety regulations applicable to the areas of assignment.
* Materials, tools, and methods required to perform facility maintenance.
* Protection and safety requirements applicable to working with power equipment and hazardous or toxic material.
* Methods of prioritizing, planning, and organizing work.
* Standard office practices or procedures.
* Standard office software and modern office equipment.
* Standard formats for business letters and other communications.
* Correct use of the English language, including spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
* Principles and practices of customer service.
Ability to:
* Perform installations, repairs, and maintenance.
* Use various tools and operate equipment applicable to facility maintenance trades.
* Apply safety requirements when working with power equipment and/or handling hazardous or toxic materials.
* Operate an electric vehicle.
* Assemble and move large equipment, furniture, and other items.
* Monitor and maintain inventory.
* Operate a variety of office equipment including computers and printers/copiers.
* Utilize standard office software (e.g., email, word processing, and spreadsheet software).
* Prepare correspondence and other documents using standard business formats.
* Prioritize work and complete assignments accurately and within established deadlines.
* Provide and obtain detailed information to/from others.
* Perform and prioritize multiple tasks.
* Provide customer service with a high level of sensitivity, tact and patience.
* Exercise reasonable judgment in performing job duties.
* Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
* Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
* Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
