Job Overview

Under supervision, titles in this classification perform technical and complex work in the City’s Wireless Communication Bureau. The role reports to the Wireless Systems Supervisor and is subject to a six‑month probationary period.

Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service to employees, customers, vendors and other City departments.
  • Model the highest standards of ethical conduct.
  • Develop necessary skills through on‑the‑job training and meet classification performance standards by the end of the probationary period.
  • Work required hours, including overtime as authorized for non‑management staff.
  • Ensure safe and efficient performance of duties and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Foster teamwork and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
  • Operate and use position‑related software, equipment and tools effectively and safely.
  • Actively participate in maintaining a secure computing environment by following City cybersecurity policies and reporting suspicious activities.
Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of responsible experience in installation, operation and maintenance of public safety communication systems.
  • Possession of a valid Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator’s License (GROL) or equivalent industry certification.
  • Valid California Driver’s License.
Highly Desirable
  • Completion of college‑level coursework in electronic and radio theory or equivalent.
Working Conditions
  • Work performed indoors in an office setting and outdoors in the field.
  • Primarily Monday to Friday during regular office hours.
  • Emergency response may be required 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, including nights, weekends and holidays.

An equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training may be considered as a substitute for the listed minimum requirements.
