Responsibilities
  • Provide routine and emergency medical care, on‑call assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of inmates in one or more prison clinical settings
  • Conduct medical/physical examinations
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and diagnose medical conditions
  • Prescribe medications and treatment
  • Educate patients about preventive health care
  • Ensure minor medical procedures are performed on‑site
  • Maintain accountability for the work product of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, including clinical supervision and professional development activities
  • Participate in the monthly on‑call schedule and provide on‑site assistance to other DOC clinical units as needed
  • Provide instruction, demonstration, and training to other health care professionals
  • Offer medical advice to other organizational units or health care specialties through consultation
  • Advise management on the development of medical programs, treatment standards, and clinical pathways
  • Ensure computer data entry, referrals, consultations, medical reporting, co‑signature, and inmate grievance requirements are completed in accordance with DOC policies and State statute
  • Maintain problem lists and M‑Code ratings in inmates’ health records; update housing and work restrictions and obtain authorization for consultations, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries
  • Participate in restraining an inmate primarily for medical reasons, if required
  • Attend quarterly medical review board meetings, monthly physician round table meetings, and other division meetings
Minimum Qualifications , Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado as a Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.)
  • Board eligible (completed residency) or board certified in one of the following specialties:
    Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Preventive Medicine
  • Provide board certification or proof of board eligibility and valid DEA license by attaching to the application or emailing
  • Complete the "Work Experience" section with all relevant experience related to the position. "See resume" statements are not accepted after the closing date.

Employees who are rehired or reinstated within six months of separation will return at either their previous pay rate or based on time in the class series, whichever is higher.
