SOCIAL WORK/COUNSELOR II - Substance Use Disorder - Buena Vista
This position provides substance use disorder services to the inmate population, including formal and informal behavioral health evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and clinical interventions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the items listed under Responsibilities and the qualifications described below.
Responsibilities- Provides substance use and co-occurring disorder treatment services under clinical supervision.
- Collaborates with other mental health professionals to address co-occurring issues.
- Serves as a consultant for unit staff regarding assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
- Monitors inmate treatment and documentation to ensure compliance with standards and continuity of care.
- Ensures accurate information system behavioral health needs levels and provides group, brief, and individual treatment.
- Provides clinical direction to non-clinical staff in behavioral health care and treatment of inmates.
- Ensures continuity of care for inmates by making appropriate referrals and providing necessary information and documentation for receiving units, facilities, or agencies.
- Provides crisis intervention in accordance with clinical standards and ensures professional privilege as appropriate.
- Documents in handwriting and electronically to maintain comprehensive inmate behavioral health records.
- Communicates with inmates regarding their behavioral health care, including the consequences of maladaptive behavior and effects of prescribed behavioral health medications.
- Listens to inmate concerns and provides counseling and direction.
- Advises, counsels, informs, and guides staff within the clinical unit, facility, and external agencies to ensure continuity of care.
- Responds to complaints, problems, transfers, classifications, and inmate behavioral management issues.
- Maintains program or unit standards and promotes safety and security of the clinical and correctional environment.
Applicant must possess a certification as a Certified Addiction Specialist (CAT) and a license as one of the following:
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (CSW), or Licensed Psychologist (PSY).
- Education/Licensure/Certification/
Experience:
Current, valid Colorado license as a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) or Addiction Counselor Candidate (ADDC), or equivalent as specified.

- Additional competencies include the ability to provide direct behavioral health care to inmates, comprehensive clinical documentation, independent work, strong interpersonal skills, and ongoing certification/licensure as an addiction counselor.
- Experience providing addiction treatment to incarcerated populations and to diverse populations.
- Experience with highly resistant clients and administering multidimensional substance use assessments.
- Experience providing addiction counseling in inpatient and outpatient settings.
