ALL ABOUT ASSETS PROTECTIONAssets Protection (AP) teams function to keep our guests, team and brand secure and lead through crisis events. They protect profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks, preventing, and resolving theft and fraud to ensure product is available for our guest. They also build relationships inside and outside of Target, including store leaders and public safety officials, inclusive of law enforcement.
Role OverviewAs a Target Security Specialist, you will use intelligence‑led tactics to keep team members and guests safe and secure. Responsibilities include crisis response, safety and crowd management, de‑escalation, using Target's video surveillance system, and documenting cases.
Typical Responsibilities- Create an Easy, Inspiring and Friendly guest experience by delivering on commitments: greet guests, assist them, end transactions with thank‑you, support teammates, adjust to business needs.
- Promote a physical security culture by assessing and maintaining safe standards throughout the store and exterior property.
- Respond to and document security incidents promptly and accurately.
- Leverage de‑escalation tactics when responding to incidents.
- Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and support theft apprehension as per AP policies.
- Prevent theft and shortage at the front of store by performing merchandise receipt checks and communicating trends.
- Submit documentation in the case management system for all incidents.
- Use Target's video surveillance system appropriately.
- Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
- Work safely, comply with all safety policies, report hazards, and correct where possible.
- Perform other duties as required by business needs.
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Meet any state or local licensure or other legal requirements related to the position.
- Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
- Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
- Effective communication skills.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
- Remain focused and composed in a fast‑paced environment while accomplishing multiple tasks.
- Climb up and down ladders.
- Apprehend subjects per company policy.
- Handle and move merchandise, including lifting up to 40 pounds.
- Flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, holidays.
- Work in varying temperatures
- Exposure to Drive‑Up and carry‑out duties.
- Remain mobile throughout scheduled shift.
