What We're Looking For

GNC's Store Manager in Training (SMIT) position is a development focused role that is crafted to prepare an individual to manage their own store. Under the leadership of a Store Manager or District Manager, this hands‑on program will teach you the skills and knowledge needed to successfully operate your own store, drive for results, and develop and lead your team.

With an understanding of business needs and a passion for health and wellness, you will find great excitement in offering tailored and innovative solutions to each customer.

Full‑time, hourly, supervisory position. The SMIT role is a fast‑track to management, providing work assignments and training opportunities to prepare you for promotion from a SMIT to a Store Manager. As a SMIT you will learn and be expected to lead, coach, and support your team to provide exceptional service and guidance to our customers. Alongside a Store Manager or District Manager you will oversee the daily operations of the store, including business performance and product management, and ensure your team has the tools to succeed.

You will represent the GNC brand by offering expert product knowledge and promoting the "Live Well" message to customers.

• Engage with your leader in training initiatives, projects, and goals to support your path to promotion.
• Support the total shopping experience, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and the customer relationship that drives sales and repeat business (e.g., MYGNC Rewards).
• Achieve and exceed personal sales and productivity goals while helping sales associates realize their sales potential.
• Build strong teams, demonstrate leadership, and managerial skills; provide ongoing feedback, recruit, hire, and conduct performance management.
• Open, close, and operate the retail facility, including cash handling, inventory counts, and deposits according to GNC procedures.
• Attend community fairs, conferences, meetings, and other public gatherings to promote the organization’s mission and initiatives.

Selection for the SMIT position does not guarantee promotion into a Store Manager position. At the end of 90 days, your performance will be assessed and evaluated to determine your eligibility for promotion to a Store Manager. This assessment includes a variety of factors such as performance, availability of openings, and willingness to accept a promotion at any location in the designated market.

• Must be able to stand or walk for up to eight hours a day.
• Frequent reaching, bending, twisting below waist and above shoulders; repetitive hand‑to‑finger motions.
• Frequent lifting up to twenty pounds, occasionally up to forty pounds; push/pull up to twenty pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders, reach, and bend.
• Work in temperatures ranging from 50–85°F, especially in stock room areas.
• Use a computer up to 60 % of the time during the day.

SMITs are expected to work five (5) days per week (40 hours) under the following guidelines:

• Mall and strip‑center stores must work at least two nights per week until closing, one weekend night, and one other night.
• Strip‑center SMITs must also work a full shift on Saturdays.
• Mall SMITs are expected to work peak business days including weekends (Saturday & Sunday).
• SMITs are expected to work a minimum of one full Sunday per month.
• Downtown SMITs must work during the lunch hour of 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Monday‑Friday and one night per week until closing if the store is open in the evening; they are not required to work Saturdays.
• SMITs are expected to work all major U.S. holidays when the store is open.
