Position: High Needs Intensive Special Education Paraprofessional (Grades K-2)

Jefferson Elementary School is seeking a dependable and student-focused High Needs Intensive Special Education Paraprofessional to support teachers and students in the classroom. This role includes supporting students with a range of academic and behavioural needs, including providing guidance, structure, and support during challenging moments. What

You'll Do
  • Assist teachers with preparing and delivering instructional materials and activities
  • Support implementation of Individualised Education Programs (IEPs) under teacher direction
  • Provide intensive instructional, behavioural, and safety support for a student whose Individualised Education Program (IEP), Behaviour Intervention Plan (BIP), health plan, or unique educational needs require dedicated adult assistance.
  • Support students with diverse learning and behavioural needs under the direction of certified staff
  • Assist with behaviour support strategies and help maintain a safe, structured environment
  • Distribute and organise classroom supplies and instructional resources
  • Maintain records and assist with grading and reports
  • Help keep the classroom neat, organised, and engaging
  • Monitor and report any student safety concerns

This position works closely with the educational team to support student learning, safety, and participation throughout the school day.

What We're Looking For
  • Associate degree, 2+ years of college, or passing a District-approved assessment
  • Ability to work with students with diverse academic, behavioural, and social-emotional needs
  • Basic record-keeping and organisational skills
  • Understanding of instructional support practices
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team
  • Patient, positive, and supportive attitude with students with disabilities
  • Ability to manage time, multitask, and handle stressful situations
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism
