This seasonal position is primarily responsible for janitorial and groundskeeping duties at Makoshika State Park, fishing access sites, and wildlife management areas from May through September. The groundskeeper works within the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division and reports to the Maintenance Team Supervisor.
Job Duties- Cleaning and sanitizing restroom and latrine facilities, picnic tables, barbeque grills, and replacing paper products.
- Cleaning other facilities including sidewalks, boat/swimming docks, picnic shelters, storage structures, bulletin boards, interpretive displays, and other signs.
- Daily inspection and reporting of hazards, maintenance or repair needs.
- Perform minor repairs such as unclogging drains, installing toilet seats, closing/locking facilities, and redirecting public use.
- Collecting trash from facilities, area garbage cans, beaches, grounds, trail areas, and adjacent highway rights‑of‑way; placing trash in transfer bins for off‑site shipment.
- Minor routine maintenance including preparing surfaces for painting or staining, changing light bulbs, and cleaning gutters and downspouts.
- Assisting in maintaining grounds: fire rings, campsites, mowing, weed cutting, hand‑pulling weeds, irrigation, raking, shoveling, fertilizing, planting, and pruning.
- Providing information to the public via employee training manuals, maps, and printed materials.
- Following established procedures and contacting authorities during emergencies or law‑enforcement situations; collecting evidence and reporting via standard forms.
- Maintaining records of duties, equipment and supply needs, and time worked; submitting them to the work‑unit office.
- Participating in annual and scheduled training including Standard First Aid, CPR, safety meetings, and ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Collecting fees and educating visitors when applicable.
- Demonstrating good leadership, conscientious equipment use, and protection of cultural and environmental resources while performing job duties.
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Other combinations of education and experience considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
Employees who exceed 1,040 hours in a calendar year receive health, dental, and life insurance; retirement, paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays. The position may be covered by a VEBA. Salary: $21.11 hourly.
Schedule:
Full‑time, day shift, with 5% travel; seasonal (less than 6 months).
