JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer and site administration, provide basic, ongoing, first-level, technical support to
teachers and other staff in the use of technology. Technicians will be responsible for complying with GUSD IT standards and directives for the work to be accomplished at their respective school sites. Technicians also perform a variety of technical duties involved in the operation, maintenance, modification, and repair of District technology at an assigned school site(s); troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform general maintenance and repairs to school computers, peripherals, and wireless network equipment;
support staff and students in their use of District technology; assist with data tracking for instructional technology. This position reports to and is evaluated by the Chief Technology Officer with input from site administration.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Information Technology Support Technician is the first level in the Information Technology career path. This position plays a crucial role in providing help desk support encompassing workstation, network, and applications assistance. This is an entry-level IT position with the expectation that the Support Technician possesses knowledge of basic network operations, account setup adhering to computer security protocols, and hardware diagnostics.
However, the primary focus of the role lies in providing the first level of support for hardware, software, network connectivity, and other technology-related issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform a variety of technical duties involved in the operation, maintenance, modification, and repair of District technology at an assigned school site(s); upgrade hardware and software as needed; ensure proper operation of District technology.
Receive and resolve basic user 'help desk' calls; document calls, forward work order requests to other technology staff, as
needed.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform general maintenance and repairs to school computers, peripherals, and wireless network equipment; respond to requests for hardware and software assistance and repair; maintain software; assure proper configuration of computer systems and resolve malfunctions.
Provide instructional assistance to students and staff in the use of computers, technology systems, and related peripheral equipment including mobile devices, tablets, laptops, printers and scanners, and District-provided Google accounts; answer questions and perform related demonstrations as necessary.
Install and maintain hardware, software, and cabling; organize and arrange new computer systems and related equipment.
Troubleshoot and perform various technical computer and peripheral repair duties that include but are not limited to diagnosing system failures and isolating faulty parts, repairing or replacing parts, and verifying and testing for correct operations.
Coordinate the use of technology centers/computer labs (at applicable school sites).
Manage mobile device carts, including: scheduling their use where appropriate; moving carts to classrooms when needed;
maintaining an inventory of carts and their devices; ensuring that devices are functioning and where needed, ensuring that
devices get repaired or replaced.
Manage documentation and claims related to device damage, malfunction, loss, theft, etc via internal and external ticketing
systems.
Provide support to staff and students during online computer-based testing.
Operate a variety of computer repair equipment and hand tools.
Attend assigned meetings, conferences, and in-services.
Set up and maintain student user accounts and profiles based on established user account policies; facilitate access controls to
systems, files, and folders by implementing privileges and permissions according to District standards.
Analyze site-level network problems and make corrective measures, referring complex occurrences to higher level technical
support. Correct connectivity failures.
Configure software to communicate with peripherals such as printers, scanners, and screens.
Set up and test the working condition of audio-visual equipment used in classrooms and shared meeting/event spaces.
