Physical Requirements

Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, listen, see, observe, and perform repetitive motions. This is medium work exerting up to 50 pounds or more of force occasionally, and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Minimum age of 21, must be a citizen of the United States.

Certification

Possession of a valid driver’s license without a history of suspension or revocation is required. All Officers are required to obtain a minimum of 25 hours of training approved by the Counsel on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) and 2 hours of mental health yearly. All Officers are required to qualify annually with issued weapons such as handgun, shotgun, rifle and taser.

Job Summary

The Police Officer performs the full range of Police work as sworn officer responsible for the maintenance of the peace, protection of life and property, and enforcement of federal, state, county, and municipal laws and ordinances.

Essential Job Functions

Drive patrol vehicle in an assigned area and observe conditions and activities.

Take appropriate action, where there appears to be potential or are actual violations of the law, disruption of public order, or harm to persons or property.

Respond to reports of criminal activity, traffic accidents, civil disturbances, misdemeanors, felonies, and other incidents.

Investigate or assist in the investigation of conditions conducive to crime or in response to reports, obtains witnesses and gathers evidence; upon investigation, takes action deemed necessary, including the issuance of citations or warnings.

Serve warrants of arrest.

Arrest persons on misdemeanor or felony charges; handcuff, search, and secure their custody.

Complete related reports.

Prepare formal descriptive reports of action taken and of suspected illegal conditions or activities for use by the department or other public agencies.

Maintain complete and comprehensive logs of daily activities and prepares detailed reports of all incidents dealt with.

Take necessary follow-up action such as appearing in court as arresting officer of witness or by making call-backs.

Respond to citizens’ complaints, provides advice and information, and resolves problems when possible.

Inspect motor vehicles for serviceability such as need for repair, service, safety, and emergency equipment.

Conduct residential and commercial security check.

Provide information and assistance to the general public.

Perform traffic patrol, conduct breathalyzer test, assist drivers of stalled or accident vehicles.

May be assigned to the investigative division as a police detective.

Maintain order in crowds.

Watch for stolen cars or missing persons.

Perform a daily condition and safety check of vehicle and report maintenance needs.

Perform other related duties as required.
