About the RoleGI Alliance is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant I. This position may involve clinical and administrative tasks, including assisting physicians with patient care, handling clerical, environmental, and organizational duties, and providing information to patients so they can fully utilize and benefit from our clinical services.
Responsibilities- Perform patient care responsibilities such as checking schedules, organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, assisting with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams, collecting patient history, checking vital signs, performing screenings per provider guidelines, assisting providers, charting, phone triage, med administration, relaying instructions, answering calls, and verifying prescriptions.
- Handle clerical responsibilities including sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/X‑ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, completing forms/requisitions, scheduling appointments, patient check‑in/out, verifying insurance coverage, and managing/updating charts.
- Perform organizational tasks such as respecting/promoting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, and communicating problems to immediate supervisors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma or GED, medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a college course in medical assisting.
Experience: Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant or documented evidence of an externship in a medical office. Experience in a Gastroenterology practice is preferred.
Requirements for Level I Status:
- Entry-level (1‑4 years of experience) or meeting basic job requirements with need for additional supervision.
- Exceeds 4 years of experience but still meeting basic job requirements with need for additional supervision.
Performance Requirements:
- Knowledge of healthcare field and EMR systems.
- Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately.
- Skill in written and verbal communication.
- Skill in patient education and sharing information effectively.
- Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care practices and procedures.
- Ability to present a pleasant and professional image.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
