Job Title: Scientist, Quality – Labs (Food Safety Scientist)
Location: Glenview, IL 60025
Pay rate: $30.00 - $34.56/hr
Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
OverviewThis role supports the implementation and execution of food safety analytical methods across the US and Canada Zones. The Scientist, Quality – Labs provides onsite microbiology laboratory support, manages project execution related to method validation, and partners closely with Corporate Quality & Food Safety and R&D teams to ensure product safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities- Support project completion through execution of microbial testing and method validation activities.
- Perform limited media preparation and quality control activities (approximately 20% of role).
- Execute validation studies to evaluate and approve microbiological test methods (rapid and cultural) for Kraft Heinz laboratories.
- Support proficiency testing programs and internal laboratory audits for factory labs.
- Provide scientific and technical food safety support to US and Canadian business partners.
- Participate in evaluation of analytical methods and communicate impacts on factory verification programs.
- Support validation of HACCP preventive controls and assess validity of generated data.
- Maintain awareness of scientific and regulatory food safety principles and emerging issues.
- Support cross-functional communication of internally and externally generated data.
- Perform administrative lab support including inventory management, ordering supplies, and data entry.
- Prior work experience in a laboratory environment.
- 1–2 years of microbiology laboratory experience in a work environment.
- Hands‑on experience with autoclaves, media preparation, and basic microbial plating (aseptic technique).
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field required (advanced degree preferred).
- 0–2 years of experience in food safety or analytical science roles.
- Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs).
- Experience with microbiology lab techniques and rapid test methods.
- Experience with LIMS or other laboratory management systems preferred (training provided).
- Awareness of quality systems such as ISO and ISO 17025 requirements.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and in team-oriented environments.
- Action‑oriented with strong attention to detail and project execution skills.
- Contract duration: 6 months with potential to extend or convert.
