Overview

Under the direction of the Director of Student Life & Housing (DSLH) and the Resident Life Coordinator (RCL), Conference Assistants (CAs) attend training before summer conferences and perform tasks that support the day-to-day office operations for coordinating conferences and events. This front-line role is the first point of contact for clients and guests.

The Conference Assistants share responsibility for the Residence Hall community with other CAs and visiting summer conference staff. They model appropriate behavior for staff, visiting staff, conference guests, and campers in the Residence Hall. They must follow directions, be a team player, and handle emergency and non-emergency situations with professionalism, safety, and the college’s best interests in mind.

Work hours: This is a part-time position limited to 28 hours per CMC workweek (Saturday through Friday).

Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)

Education and experience sufficient to meet the rigors of the position, e.g., High School/GED and one year (2080 work hours) related work experience, or equivalent education and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Skills or Abilities: Experiential education and components of Pre-collegiate Programs; ability to translate experiences into learning, evaluate methods, provide feedback and guidance; experience with Microsoft Office; excellent oral and written communication; strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize; flexible hours.

Work schedules vary by weekly conferences and guest turnover. An average work week is a maximum of 28 hours
, spread over seven days as needed. Some periods may have high occupancy; others may have reduced or no occupancy. Supervisors will notify ahead of time. CAs must be able and willing to work any shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. When conferences schedule, some dates will be designated as “All Staff” workdays. CAs may request time off during breaks, subject to availability and staffing needs.

Arrangements must be made at least two weeks in advance with the immediate supervisor. CAs are not allowed to work more than 10 hours per week outside of the CA position without supervisor approval before accepting another job or enrolling in classes.

The successful candidate will gain experience in conference planning, customer service, communication, teamwork, registration, logistics, and financial management.

Salary & Benefits: Hiring pay rate is $17.76 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution, annual and sick time, mental health resources, and tuition benefit. Compensation will be aligned with qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Position Status: Position anticipated to close on March 16, 2026 or until filled.

Minimum Qualifications

Essential Duties

  • Assist with weekly conference preparation including room setup, damage checks, cleaning, conference supplies, inventory, laundry, occupancy lists, duties for campers/counselors/representatives, NSR assistance, key inventory, errands, and check-in/check-out scheduling.
  • Maintain scheduled front desk hours and on-duty shifts; perform front desk duties, general office tasks, guest relations, keys, phone/guest inquiries, check-in/check-out operations, and related duties.
  • Respond to emails and phone messages; manage tasks in support of the residence hall.
  • Assist with conference and housing registrations.
  • Manage pickup, sorting, and delivery of mail.
  • Assist with on-site conference logistics and execution of conference events.
  • Support planning and execution of conference logistics (meeting space, catering, transportation, special events, parking, etc.).
  • Design work needed for conference logistics and directional sign production.
  • Work a varying schedule as required for weekly conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.
