Primary Responsibility:
The adjunct faculty members of Colorado Mountain College are here to assist students in their learning process by utilizing all appropriate staff resources, materials, facilities, and educational technologies available, which complement the teaching process. Faculty members need to be committed to facilitating learning throughout our communities.

Although teaching is the most important role of the faculty, the needs of our learners are also served when faculty are engaged in scholarly endeavors as well as service activities.

The college seeks innovative facilitators of learning who are active in the art of teaching and passionate about extending academic opportunities to all students. Colorado Mountain College is an institution offering associate and bachelor’s degrees with a focus on positive classroom experiences and excellent outcomes for all students. CMC does not conduct research but instead focuses on excellence in teaching and learning in diverse classroom settings and programs.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for dynamic classroom experiences and excellent academic opportunities and student support.

Qualifications & Qualifications Standards

Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in the specific program or be eligible to be credentialed. Candidates should hold at least a master’s degree in the relevant field or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in a related field. A minimum of one year full‑time teaching experience, or equivalent as an adjunct instructor, is required. Higher education teaching experience is preferred.

An equivalent or applicable combination of education and experience to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position is required.

Special skills or abilities: knowledge of pedagogy, at least two years of teaching experience, strong background in computers and technology, excellent organizational and office skills, and strong communication, interpersonal skills, willingness to learn, ability to research and effectively analyze data, and ability to work independently towards established goals and deadlines.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities are preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Essential Duties:

  • Teach classes as assigned.
  • Prepare lesson plans, course objectives, and syllabi in accordance with approved course objectives.
  • Develop and submit course outlines to the supervisor.
  • Assist in the development of measurable course objectives.
  • Build professional relationships with students and staff that promote communication.
  • Maintain accurate course records and complete required course forms.
  • Be available for student consultation.
  • Assist in student recruitment, as appropriate.
  • Assist in evaluating curriculum and instructional performance when expected.
  • Represent the college professionally throughout the community and college district.
  • Engage in professional development as required for credentialing.
Supervision of the Position

This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Instruction or designee in alignment with discipline deans. The position may supervise student employees.

Special Conditions of Employment:
Successful completion of a background check and, if applicable, motor vehicle records report is required. Incumbents will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned. Travel, evening, and/or weekend hours may be required.
