Job Summary:
The Radiation Oncology Nurse provides specialized nursing care to oncology patients undergoing radiation treatment, collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team. This role focuses on assessment, patient education, and supportive care to optimize treatment outcomes and patient comfort.
Responsibilities:
- Assess patients’ physical and emotional needs related to radiation therapy and treatment progress.
- Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists to evaluate and examine patients, ensuring effective treatment planning.
- Educate patients and families on treatment procedures, side effects, and coping strategies.
- Refer patients to supportive services such as rehabilitation, hospice, nutritional support, and community resources.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient care, interventions, and responses.
- Serve as a liaison between Radiation Oncology, other departments, and external care providers to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
Qualifications:
- Hold an active Colorado RN license in good standing with BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
- Possess a minimum of 2 years of RN experience in Radiation Oncology.
- Demonstrate ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Exhibit strong communication skills for effective team collaboration and patient interaction.
- Maintain current knowledge of oncology treatment trends, procedures, and evidence-based practices.
- Show flexibility, organization, and cultural sensitivity in managing diverse patient populations.
