Job Summary:
The Radiation Oncology Nurse is a registered nurse dedicated to delivering specialized patient care within the radiation oncology setting. Collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team, the nurse provides assessments, education, and supportive services to patients throughout their treatment and recovery process.
Responsibilities:
- Assess patient conditions and implement appropriate nursing interventions related to radiation therapy and disease management.
- Educate patients and families on treatment procedures, side effects, and self-care strategies to foster understanding and coping.
- Coordinate care with radiation oncologists, interdisciplinary teams, and support services, including referrals to rehabilitation, hospice, or nutritional resources.
- Serve as a liaison among healthcare providers, hospitals, and support groups to ensure seamless communication and patient support.
- Monitor patients for potential complications, adverse reactions, or treatment-related issues, and escalate as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient care, assessments, and care plans in compliance with standards.
Qualifications:
- Current Colorado RN license in good standing.
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience in radiation oncology.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association; ACLS certification preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment and effectively communicate within multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of oncology treatments, protocols, and emerging trends related to radiation therapy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage care for diverse patient populations.
