The purpose of this position is to assist the Public Works Department administrative staff with related accounting issues. This position maintains accounting systems and procedures according to Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) guidelines. This position works cooperatively with other County Departments.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position does not supervise other employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assists with the annual budget process and audits. (30%)
- Assists and provides accounting related training to Public Works staff and liaises with administrative staff to enable reclassification and preparation of journal corrections. (30%)
- Codes and submits accounts payable invoices and audits credit card receipts. Maintains project files and reports according to the contracts and other relevant information. Maintains list of all current contract for Public Works. (15%)
- Assists in the maintenance of project records for each Public Works Division. Attends meetings regarding projects and interacts with other Local, State and Federal Agencies. (15%)
- Audits coding of transactions in the general ledger following review and analysis of each department. (10%)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This position reviews, edits and provides recommendations on department and County-wide budgets.
Project ResponsibilitiesProvides project coordination support and recordkeeping on projects.
Oral Communication DutiesThis position trains colleagues and explains County procedures or processes.
Written Communication DutiesThis position creates or edits documents, internal memos, emails and formal letters.
Interactions with the General PublicInteracts extensively with employees, customers, the general public, vendors, regulatory bodies, and other groups and/or individuals and Institutions over the telephone, by email, and/or in person.

Minimum Education RequiredBachelor's Degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
Minimum Years of Experience RequiredTwo (2) years experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Professional Credentials Required/PreferredMust possess and maintain a valid Driver's License if position duties require.

Physical Demands- Rarely stands to present.
- Constantly sits to complete report, operate computers. Rarely sits to operate special equipment and attend to reception areas. Constantly sits to complete a program and to attend to other duties.
- Regularly lifts under 10 lbs., and occasionally lifts up to 25 lbs or work related materials.
- Regularly requires dexterity for keyboard operation, special gadgets and special machines.
- Routinely bends and twists side to side to reach or grab work related materials. Rarely stoops and occasionally kneels to pick up work related materials.
- Incumbents in this position may be required to routinely walk to and from work sites, bend and kneel to complete tasks; may attend project sites for required bid walk-throughs.
Incumbents in this position constantly spend time work in an office environment; occasionally spends time in lobby environment; occasionally spends time in automobile; occasionally spends time on project sites. Work is performed in an office or lobby environment where the physical demands require sitting for extended periods of time; frequent use of computers and standard office equipment; may work under stress of deadlines and with members of the public.

Incumbents in this position are generally not exposed to safety risk. On occasion incumbents may be exposed to telephone verbal abuse by callers.
Protective Gear & Safety ManualsIncumbents in this position are required to constantly follow written safety procedures and manuals relevant to the division or department. May be required to wear hard hat, eye protection devices on rare occasions.
