Tenure Track Ass. prof, Associate Prof and Professor of Computational Genomics

Job Title

Tenure-track Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor of High Performance Computational Genomics, particularly for ancient and environmental DNA.

The Globe Institute at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for a permanent, full‑time position to commence as soon as possible. The role focuses on developing computational methods for large‑scale genomic datasets, including ancient and environmental DNA (eDNA), metagenomics, population genomics, pan genomics and related areas. The position is part of the AEGIS initiative at the Section for Geo Genetics, aiming to improve food security under climate change through advanced genomic profiling of natural and agro‑ecosystems.

• Build an independent and collaborative research profile, including peer‑reviewed publications of the results.
• Develop and apply high‑performance computational methods and tools for genomic data analysis, particularly in the context of ancient environmental DNA.
• Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers.
• Engage in research‑based teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
• Participate in a formal pedagogical training programme for assistant professors (for the tenure‑track assistant professor position).
• Active participation in the local scientific community and within the Institute.
• Engage in public outreach and science communication, both internally and externally.
• Contribute to the development of the computational genomics research environment at the Globe Institute and the wider University.

• Ph.D. or equivalent in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Academic standing showing internationally competitive research and/or high potential to make a future impact.
• Proven track record of research excellence evidenced by publications, open‑source bioinformatics software tools or other impactful projects.
• Experience with high‑performance computing, algorithm and method development, or large‑scale genomic data analysis and visualization.
• Expertise in computational genomics, particularly metagenomics, environmental DNA, ancient DNA, population genomics, phylogenetics, pan genomics or other high‑throughput computational biology areas.
• Interdisciplinary research portfolio connecting computational biology with domains such as ecology, evolution or climate science.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Commitment to teaching, mentoring and community service in a university setting.
• Documented original academic production at an international level, including significant contributions to the discipline.
• Ability to provide research‑based teaching (for associate professor and professor positions).
• Experience in engaging in external academic activities, knowledge and technology transfer.

Permanent full‑time appointment, average weekly working hours 37. Salary and other terms are set according to agreements with relevant professional associations. The position follows the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
