The purpose of this position is to fulfill accounting and administrative functions and to ensure County funds are handled correctly. This position makes this possible by adhering to Arizona Statutes on governmental accounting and reporting as well as all Federal Mandates.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not supervise other employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • 30% Serves as the main point of contact for any information concerning funds and budgets for County offices, fire districts and the cities and towns.
  • 20% Represents the County Treasurer's Office during audits and prepares all necessary records in reference to the Office's transactions and funds balances.
  • 10% Accurately allocates funds to various entities listed on tax bills, to ensure entities meet their budgets and maintain healthy credit lines. Such allocation process is carried out according to Arizona Statutes and accounting guidelines through reports and statements, completed daily, monthly and annually.
  • 10% Attends to phone calls and provides guidance to citizens with tax-related questions during peak tax collection times.
  • 10% Maintains and balances checkbook daily and processes journals from Finance Department, schools and special districts.
  • 10% Performs cash and bank reconciliations.
  • 10% Uploads and processes warrants from banks before posting and provides corresponding reports to the Finance Department, the County School Superintendent’s Office and the Payson School District.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

This position reviews, edits and provides recommendations on department and County-wide budgets.

This position does not have project responsibilities.

This position trains colleagues and explains County procedures or processes.

Written Communication Duties

This position creates or edits documents, internal memos, emails and formal letters.

Interactions with the General Public

Interacts extensively with employees, customers, the general public, vendors, regulatory bodies, and other groups and/or individuals and institutions over the telephone, by email, and/or in person.

Interactions Specifically with Customers

Regularly (More than 55% but less than 70% in a year)

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

Minimum Years of Experience Required

One (1) year accounting experience preferably in public sector accounting; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Professional Credentials Required

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License if position duties require.

Knowledge Required

Mathematics; finance; accounting;
Federal, State, Local laws, regulations, statutes and banking.

Skills Required

Active listening; critical thinking; reading; problem recognition; problem solving; troubleshooting; multi-tasking; typing and data entry.

Abilities Required

Solve problems sensibly and swiftly; perform mathematical operations; focus; multi-task and deductive reasoning.

Physical Demands
  • Constantly requires dexterity for keyboard operation.
  • Routinely bends to reach and grab work related materials.
Work Environment

Incumbents in this position constantly work in an office environment.

Incumbents in this position are generally not exposed to safety risk; on rare occasions incumbents in this position may become exposed to telephone verbal abuse by customers or citizens.

Protective Gear & Safety Manuals

Incumbents in this position are required to constantly follow written safety procedures and manuals relevant to the division or department.
