The purpose of this position is to ensure the safety of the Gila County community through the utilization of evidence based practices in the management and support of officers responsible for administering case supervision.

This position performs administration duties in planning, developing, organizing, directing and coordinating the activities of both Juvenile and Adult Divisions of the Probation Department. This position is responsible for providing leadership in the administration of the department and in the development and evaluation of policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Regularly assigns work to other employees and supervises related activities.
  • Makes final decisions on scheduling work hours of employees, evaluating employee performance, granting time off and employee coaching.
  • Provides recommendations on hiring new employees, handling employee grievances, training, employee promotions, employee salary increases, employee disciplinary actions and discharging employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Staffs cases with probation officers, ensuring the utilization and fidelity of evidence based practices and principles; utilizes State and National record systems, State and National assessments and screening tools approving work schedules and maintaining office coverage; prioritizes and assigns cases and projects; counsels, coaches, trains and instructs employees as required; reviews case reports and files; completes performance appraisals and documents corrective actions.
  • Manages daily operations of Probation Department through delegation, managerial support and work supervision; recommends and implements solutions to ensure standardized operations of department activities; develops and enhances cooperative professional relationships with community resource agencies, Court Administration and regional law enforcement and justice agencies.
  • Participates in creation of departmental procedures and operational practices. Retrieves statistical information, administers budgets and creates reports.
  • Serves as member of departmental administrative team and performs special assignments; participates in annual budget planning and preparation; monitors and prepares statistical reports required by Administrative Office of the Courts for both Adult and Juvenile Divisions; prepares and negotiates State and Federal grants monitoring compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Assures effective communication with Probation and Law Enforcement agencies; coordinates with various agencies providing contracted services; facilitates departmental court representation; updates and maintains a variety of documents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Budget Responsibilities

This position reviews, edits and provides recommendations on department level budget, project budget and State budget.

Project Responsibilities

Provides project resource allocation based on pre-approved resources involving organizational planning projects, organizational development projects, quality assurance, process improvement projects, employee training and development projects. Provides project research support on capital development projects.

Oral Communication Duties

This position trains colleagues, explains County procedures or processes, responds to public inquiries, participates in meetings, gives presentations, negotiates or persuades and conducts meetings.

Written Communication Duties

This position creates or edits documents, internal memos, emails, reports and court documents.

Interactions with the General Public

Interacts extensively with employees, customers, the general public, vendors, regulatory bodies, and other groups and/or individuals and Institutions over the telephone, by email, and/or in person.

Interactions Specifically with Customers

Always (More than 85% in a year).

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree with a preference in the behavioral sciences or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Minimum Years of Directly Related Experience Required
